{"id":339,"date":"2017-04-02T18:10:45","date_gmt":"2017-04-03T01:10:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.wastudentmath.org\/?p=339"},"modified":"2024-09-25T15:19:36","modified_gmt":"2024-09-25T22:19:36","slug":"washington-state-mathcounts-2017-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.wastudentmath.org\/index.php\/washington-state-mathcounts-2017-recap\/","title":{"rendered":"Washington State MATHCOUNTS 2017 Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The annual Washington State MATHCOUNTS competition was held this past weekend on Saturday, March 18 at the Microsoft Conference Center in Redmond. 146 winners from chapters across the state came together to compete after regional competitions earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>The following was the schedule for the day:<\/p>\n<p>8:30-9:00 am: Registration<br \/>\n9:00 &#8211; 9:30 am: Welcome, Introductions, Review of General Rules<br \/>\n9:30 &#8211; 10:20 am: Sprint Round<br \/>\n10:20 &#8211; 10:30 am: Break<br \/>\n10:30 &#8211; 11:15 am: Target Round<br \/>\n11:15 &#8211; 11:25 am: Break<br \/>\n11:25 &#8211; 11:50 am: Team Round<br \/>\n12:00 &#8211; 12:45 pm: Lunch<br \/>\n12:45 &#8211; 1:15 pm: Special Presentation<br \/>\n1:15 &#8211; 1:45 pm: Announcements, Prize Raffle<br \/>\n1:45 &#8211; 2:15 pm: Countdown Round<br \/>\n2:15 &#8211; 2:45 pm: Team &amp; Individual Awards<\/p>\n<p>For the Sprint Round, competitors worked individually and had 40 minutes to complete 30 questions without a calculator. For the Target Round, competitors also worked individually and received 4 pairs of problems with 6 minutes to complete each, with the use of a calculator.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wastudentmath.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/DSC00461-300x200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-388 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.wastudentmath.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/DSC00461-300x200-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"DSC00461-300x200\" width=\"263\" height=\"176\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wastudentmath.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/DSC00229-300x200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-386 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.wastudentmath.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/DSC00229-300x200-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"DSC00229-300x200\" width=\"266\" height=\"177\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For the Team Round, competitors in official teams gathered to complete 10 math problems in 20 minutes with the use of a calculator. Solely individual competitors could also participate in unofficial teams.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wastudentmath.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/DSC00455-300x200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-387 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.wastudentmath.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/DSC00455-300x200-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"DSC00455-300x200\" width=\"258\" height=\"172\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wastudentmath.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/DSC00226-300x200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-385 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.wastudentmath.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/DSC00226-300x200-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"DSC00226-300x200\" width=\"260\" height=\"173\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">For the Countdown Round, competitors had a maximum of 45 seconds to answer a question without the use of a calculator.\u00a0Spectators were allowed after lunch, and during the Countdown Round the room was filled with family and friends supporting the competitors.
